When I first began using Instagram it was just as a creative place to share inspiration and images of my life and things I love! Little did I realise the power of influence you can create on the platform!
Instagram can be used as a base to build a relationship with your community and share all of the things you have going on behind the scenes and you can make it a cash machine with the right tools and techniques in place!
It can be a place to build the like know and trust with your community and do it in a way that is not overwhelming or icky. On Instagram your followers expect you to be real, to share your journey and your life and so it is an amazing place to give your audience and community value, behind the scenes and let them into your life and business. Share the exciting projects you are working on and all of the things your community love to see and hear from you!
I share with you the tools and techniques I use to not only grow my tribe but to also turn them into warm traffic and build a relationship with my followers and sift them through my sales funnels.
I have added resources right at the end, which links to all of the tools I have talked about and gives you some discounts if you go through my links to use the services. Please note that if you do buy through my links we will both gain incentives, it is not a huge amount, but it sure helps me to feed ma kids!
One of the questions I get asked all the time is, how much time do I need to spend on Instagram?
This all depends on how much time you want to commit to it, and what results you want to see. The most important thing to do is to measure all of your activity and work out what works for you and your tribe and go from there. What works for some people won’t for others. The main thing about Instagram is consistency. Keeping up with the posting and engaging is vital in growing it to your advantage. We talk through tools which help you do this throughout this workbook.
1. I have to have a lot of followers for Instagram to work for me
This is the biggest myth I hear! Far too often I see that people have fallen into the trap of believing that there has to be a huge following of people to be able to convert any of them to clients and it simply is not true! What you really should be focussing on, is providing as much value and support to the tribe you are already building and the people will gravitate to you naturally.
2. I have to have a perfect Instagram feed and for it to look amazing and beautiful for people to follow me and then want to work with me…
UrghUrgh…Have you seen my feed?! Now, I am not saying it is not beautiful, however, I tested this theory with another account and I saw no difference in the growth or conversions from the feed that was perfectly laid out, to the one I posted just from inspiration from.
3. Instagram can’t make me any money
This is so not true! You can turn your Instagram into a $$$$ money machine, and today we will touch on how!
OK, So we want some actionable steps to be able to go away and work with! So let’s dig in!
What is the outcome?
What is the outcome you are wanting from working on Instagram? Are you on there to build a relationship with your community, using it for lead generation or are you wanting to show behind the scenes?
You need to be clear on this step so that you are intentional about what you are posting and what your call to action is, where you are funnelling people and how you are going to convert them.
Setting up your account
Ensure you are a business profile and this way you can check the analytics and the times that you see the most engagement.
Your profile image along with your bio is the first things that people are going to see.
It needs to be straightforward and simple. Your profile image needs to be high quality, and I recommend it is an image of you rather than just a logo. People will connect with you just from seeing your image. As much as we don’t want to believe it, however unjudgemental we are we all begin to make assumptions and judgements about people within the first few seconds. Make it count! It has to be clear what value you are providing when someone jumps on your page to give them the choice of whether or not they are going to follow you and build a relationship with you further. Make sure it is intentional and consistent with the outcome you are aiming to achieve for your account!
Hashtags are so important!
They are what people search for in Instagram. People will find you this way and they will decide from clicking on your profile if they then want to continue the relationship with you or not. You can use up to 30 # in each post. You can find hashtags relevant to you and your tribe by searching one in the search bar and seeing what others also come up.
Instagram is a social media platform.
This means that you have to be social. You have to interact with your audience and communicate with them. If not people will just switch off and not be interested in what you have to say. You have to go out and do the networking. So think about, what accounts will already have built up a community where you can go in, engage, provide value and then allow them to gravitate back to your profile.
You do need to ensure that you are on Instagram during the times that are most engaging for your audience. You can check the analytics in your business account from your phone app.
I recommend posting between 2-4 times per day using a call to action in each post. Have your call to action at the top of your text or in your image.
How to automate
Planoly & Tailwind are both tools you can use to help you with Instagram automation. You can set up a beautiful feed before you post and get reminders which will help you with consistency.
How to grow your following off Instagram
Instagram Pods are a great way to find help with engagement and adding links to your website, you can also cross-promote onto other social media platforms and add your Instagram links to your emails.
Remember the most important thing to do is to measure all of your activity and work out what works for you and your tribe and go from there. What works for some people won’t for others. The main thing about Instagram is consistency. Keeping up with the posting and engaging is vital in growing it to your advantage.
